## How it works

Divide the yearly price by the monthly price. The result is the number of months after which the yearly plan wins. Cancel before that month and you would have paid less month to month.

## Worked example

[Apple TV](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/apple-tv) costs $14.99 a month or $119 a year. $119 / $14.99 = 7.9 months. Keep it 8 months or more and yearly is cheaper, with a 34% discount on a full year. [Claude](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/claude) Pro, at $20.00 or $200 a year, only pays off after 10.0 months.

## FAQ

### How do I know if a yearly subscription is worth it?

Divide the yearly price by the monthly price. If you'll keep the subscription longer than that many months, yearly is cheaper.

### How much does paying yearly usually save?

About 17% is typical, the same as two months free. Some services discount far more, and some barely at all.

### What if I keep it for 13 months?

The calculator buys one year and pays monthly for the leftover month, whichever is cheaper, so the comparison stays fair.
