# ChatGPT vs Claude vs Gemini Pricing (2026): Every Plan Compared

The three big AI assistants charge almost exactly the same for their main plan: ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini each cost about $20 a month. The real differences are below and above that tier, and in what happens when you pay for more than one. This guide lays out every plan of ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, Grok and Copilot Pro, what each costs over one and three years, which one fits which kind of user, and how to pick without paying for two. US list prices, checked October 2026.

## Every AI assistant plan by price tier

Plan names change often and every company uses its own words, so the easiest way to compare is by price band. Here is every monthly plan we track, sorted into four tiers.

| Assistant | Under $15 | $15 to $50 | $50 to $150 | $150 and up |
| --- | --- | --- | --- | --- |
| [ChatGPT](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/chatgpt) | Go $8.00 | Plus $20.00 | Pro $100 | Pro 20x $200, Pro 500 $500 |
| [Claude](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/claude) | - | Pro $20.00 | Max 5x $100 | Max 20x $200 |
| [Gemini](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/gemini) | AI Plus $4.99 | AI Pro $19.99 | AI Ultra $99.99 | AI Ultra 20x $199.99 |

| [Copilot Pro](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/copilot-pro) | - | Pro $20.00 | - | - |

**Cheapest paid plan, per month**

| Item | Value |
| --- | ---: |
| Gemini AI Plus | $4.99 |
| ChatGPT Go | $8.00 |
| Poe | $19.99 |
| Claude Pro | $20.00 |
| Perplexity Pro | $20.00 |
| Copilot Pro | $20.00 |
| SuperGrok | $30.00 |

Gemini is the cheapest way to pay for an AI assistant. Poe, which bundles several models in one app, is included for reference.

**Most expensive plan, per month**

| Item | Value |
| --- | ---: |
| ChatGPT Pro 500 | $500 |
| Grok Heavy | $300 |
| Claude Max 20x | $200 |
| Perplexity Max | $200 |
| Gemini AI Ultra 20x | $199.99 |

Top plans are priced for people who hit usage limits every day. Many people never need them. Copilot Pro has a single plan, so it isn't shown.

## The four tiers, explained

### Under $15: the budget tier

Only Gemini and ChatGPT sell a plan under $15: Gemini AI Plus at $4.99 and ChatGPT Go at $8.00. These sit between the free tier and the main paid plan. They make sense if the free version keeps running out on you but you don't use an assistant every day. Claude and Perplexity have no paid plan below $20.

### $20 to $30: the main tier

ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot Pro all cost $19.99 or $20 a month. [Grok](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/grok) is the exception at $30.00 for SuperGrok. This is where most paying users sit, and at this tier you are choosing on usage limits, models and features, not price. Those change every few months, so check each service's pricing page for current limits before you commit.

### Around $100: the heavy-use tier

Claude Max 5x and ChatGPT Pro both cost $100 a month, and Gemini AI Ultra costs $99.99. These plans exist for people who run into limits on the $20 plan most days. If that happens to you only a few times a month, waiting for the limit to reset or switching assistants for the rest of the day is far cheaper.

### $200 and up: the power tier

Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini and Perplexity all have a plan at about $200 a month, Grok Heavy costs $300, and ChatGPT goes furthest at $500. At $2,400 a year for a $200 plan, this is a work expense. It only pays off if the assistant replaces hours of paid work every week.

## What each plan costs over one and three years

Monthly prices look small. The yearly and three-year totals are what you are really committing to when you leave a subscription running.

| Plan | Per month | Per year | 3 years |
| --- | ---: | ---: | ---: |
| [Gemini AI Plus](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/gemini) | $4.99 | $59.88 | $179.64 |
| [ChatGPT Go](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/chatgpt) | $8.00 | $96.00 | $288 |
| [Gemini AI Pro](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/gemini) | $19.99 | $239.88 | $719.64 |
| [ChatGPT Plus](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/chatgpt) | $20.00 | $240 | $720 |
| [Claude Pro](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/claude) | $20.00 | $240 | $720 |
| [Perplexity Pro](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/perplexity) | $20.00 | $240 | $720 |
| [Copilot Pro](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/copilot-pro) | $20.00 | $240 | $720 |
| [SuperGrok](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/grok) | $30.00 | $360 | $1,080 |
| [Gemini AI Ultra](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/gemini) | $99.99 | $1,199.88 | $3,599.64 |
| [ChatGPT Pro](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/chatgpt) | $100 | $1,200 | $3,600 |
| [Claude Max 5x](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/claude) | $100 | $1,200 | $3,600 |
| [Claude Max 20x](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/claude) | $200 | $2,400 | $7,200 |

## What the free tiers are for

ChatGPT, Claude and Gemini all have a free tier, and for many people it is enough. Free tiers usually come with lower usage limits and less access to the newest models and tools, and the details change often. Treat the free tier as a trial with no end date: use it on your real work for a couple of weeks before deciding a paid plan is worth it.

A useful rule: if you have hit the free limit more than once a week for a month, a paid plan is likely worth it. If you've hit it once or twice in total, it isn't yet.

## What to check on a pricing page before you pay

Two $20 plans can be very different products. These are the questions worth answering from the vendor's own pricing and help pages before paying:

1. **Usage limits.** How many messages or how much use you get, and what happens when you hit the limit: a pause, a slower model, or extra charges.
2. **Which models are included.** The newest model is often limited or reserved for higher tiers.
3. **File and image handling.** Whether you can upload documents, images or spreadsheets, and how large.
4. **Privacy settings.** Whether your chats can be used for training on a personal plan, and how to turn that off.
5. **Commercial use and teams.** Whether the personal plan allows work use, and what a team plan adds.
6. **Billing.** Monthly or yearly, where you subscribe (website or app store), and whether tax is added at checkout.

## Three-year cost of common setups

Most setups fall into a handful of patterns. Here is what each costs over three years at today's prices.

| Setup | Per month | 3 years |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| Budget: Gemini AI Plus | $4.99 | $179.64 |
| Light: ChatGPT Go | $8.00 | $288 |
| Writer: ChatGPT Plus | $20.00 | $720 |
| Researcher: Perplexity Pro + ChatGPT Go | $28.00 | $1,008 |
| Developer: Claude Pro + Cursor Pro | $40.00 | $1,440 |
| Two assistants: ChatGPT Plus + Claude Pro | $40.00 | $1,440 |
| Heavy user: Claude Max 5x | $100 | $3,600 |

## Which plan fits you

Price alone won't pick an assistant for you, but it can stop you overpaying. These are starting points by kind of user. Try the free tier first in every case.

### Students and occasional users

Start free. If you hit limits, the cheapest step up is Gemini AI Plus at $4.99 or ChatGPT Go at $8.00, which is $59.88 or $96.00 a year. Check whether your school offers a discount or an education plan before paying list price.

### Writers and everyday office work

Pick one $20 plan and stick with it for a month before judging. ChatGPT Plus and Claude Pro cost the same $20.00. If you write long documents, try both on the free tier with the same real piece of work and keep the one you prefer. Paying for both doubles the cost to $480 a year.

### Developers

Claude Pro and Max are also the plans people use with Claude Code, so a developer who already pays for an editor tool may not need a separate chat assistant at all. Read [Cursor vs GitHub Copilot vs Claude Code pricing](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/blog/ai-coding-tools-pricing) before adding a second $20 plan.

### Researchers and heavy searchers

[Perplexity](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/perplexity) Pro costs $20.00, the same as the big three. If most of what you do is look things up with sources, it can replace a general assistant rather than sit beside one. Compare [ChatGPT vs Perplexity](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/compare/chatgpt-vs-perplexity) and [Claude vs Perplexity](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/compare/claude-vs-perplexity).

### People who already pay Google for storage

Gemini AI Pro includes Google One storage. If you already pay $9.99 a month for [Google One](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/google-one) 2 TB, switching to Gemini AI Pro at $19.99 adds only $10.00 a month, $120.00 a year, for the assistant. Cancel the separate Google One plan once you switch, or you pay for storage twice.

### Microsoft 365 households

[Copilot Pro](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/copilot-pro) costs $20.00 on top of [Microsoft 365](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/subscriptions/microsoft-365). Check what your Microsoft 365 plan already includes before adding it, since Microsoft has been moving AI features into its main plans.

### Small teams and founders

Two or three people each on a $20 plan cost $480 to $720 a year. Most assistants also sell team plans with shared billing and admin controls at a higher per-seat price; check those on the vendor's site, because they aren't in our consumer price list. Agree on one assistant for the team so you aren't paying for overlapping seats.

### Power users

Move to the $100 tier only after a month of hitting limits on the $20 plan most days. Going straight to a $200 plan costs $2,160 more a year than the $20 plan. That has to buy you real hours back.

## Yearly billing

Claude is the only one of the big three with a yearly price in our catalog: Pro yearly costs $200 a year instead of $240, a 17% saving. It only pays off if you keep the plan for at least 10 months. AI tools change fast, and a yearly plan stops you from switching when a competitor gets better. Run your numbers in the [monthly vs yearly calculator](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/tools/monthly-vs-yearly-calculator).

## The real cost: stacking assistants

The most expensive mistake isn't picking the wrong assistant. It is paying for several at once because each one is better at something. Here is what stacking the $20 plans costs.

**Yearly cost as you add $20 assistants**

| Item | Value |
| --- | ---: |
| ChatGPT Plus | $240 |
| + Claude Pro | $480 |
| + Gemini AI Pro | $719.88 |
| + Perplexity Pro | $959.88 |

A second $20 assistant costs $240 a year. Invested at 7% instead, the same $20.00 a month grows to about $3,462 in ten years ([run your own numbers](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/tools/subscription-investment-calculator?monthly=20)).

Many people open one assistant far more than the others. Keep that one, cancel the rest, and resubscribe to another for the one month you have a project that needs it. Every assistant here can be cancelled and restarted at any time.

## Rotate instead of stacking

If you like two assistants, you don't have to pay for both all year. Keep one as your main plan and pay for the second only in the months you need it, for a big writing project, a research deadline or a coding sprint. Paying for a second $20 plan for 3 months a year instead of twelve saves $180 a year.

| Approach | Per year | 3 years |
| --- | ---: | ---: |
| One $20 assistant | $240 | $720 |
| One all year, a second for 3 months | $300 | $900 |
| Two $20 assistants all year | $480 | $1,440 |

## Signs you're on the wrong plan

- **You hit the limit most days.** You may need the next tier, or a second assistant for the overflow, but test the cheaper fix first: shorter conversations and starting fresh chats often help.
- **You haven't opened it this week.** Drop to the free tier. Your history usually stays in your account.
- **You pay for two and use one.** Cancel the one you open less. Check which one that is in your browser history, not from memory.
- **You're on a $100 or $200 plan and rarely hit the $20 plan's limit.** Downgrade and save the difference. Moving from a $100 plan to $20 saves $960 a year.
- **You pay in an app store at a higher price.** Some services charge more for in-app purchases than on their website. Compare before renewing.

## Prices outside the US

These are US list prices in dollars, before tax. Most AI assistants charge local prices in other countries, and sales tax or VAT is usually added at checkout. Some have regional plans that cost less. Check the price on each service's own pricing page in your country, and use the currency switch in the [subscription calculator](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/build) to see your total.

## How to choose without paying twice

1. Write down five real tasks from your last week: an email, a document, a piece of research, some code, a plan.
2. Run all five on the free tiers of two assistants. Note where each one helped and where you gave up.
3. Pay for one month of the winner only. Set a reminder for the renewal date with the [free trial calculator](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/tools/free-trial-calculator).
4. Count how often you used it that month. The [cost per use calculator](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/tools/cost-per-use-calculator) turns that into a price per task.
5. Keep it if each use is worth more than it costs. Otherwise drop back to the free tier.

## Pitfalls to avoid

- **Subscribing in the iPhone or Android app.** You then have to cancel through Apple or Google, not the assistant's website. Our [cancel guides](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/cancel) explain both.
- **Paying for the $100 tier too early.** Limits on the $20 plans reset, and they have changed often. Upgrade only after a pattern, not one bad day.
- **Forgetting a second account.** A work plan and a personal plan for the same assistant is easy to miss. Check both card statements.
- **Storage you already have.** Gemini AI Pro includes Google One storage. Paying for both is waste.
- **Assuming prices stay put.** Several AI plans have been repriced since launch. The [price increase calculator](https://www.trackmysubscriptions.com/tools/subscription-price-increase-calculator) shows what a rise costs you.
